IDEA
The MEX ICE ROBE bathrobe was designed with winter bathing enthusiasts in mind. When using open waters such as the sea, pond, river or swimming pool, the likelihood of uncontrolled hypothermia significantly increases. This can pose a threat to health and even life.
Unfortunately, most products available on the market do not meet the expectations, and those that have the fewest flaws can cost up to $300. Thus, our goal was to create a product free of such flaws, with a guarantee of a more affordable price. The main problem concerns the proper thermal protection of the largest possible surface of the body, especially the torso and head, after its exposure to cold conditions. Through trial and error, we tested hundreds of fabrics in various configurations, while monitoring the core body temperature. The aim was not only to prevent a further drop in temperature and counteract the reaction to the so-called afterdrop, but also to quickly warm the body, raise the skin temperature and improve thermal sensations, and ultimately increase the core temperature. This is how MEX ICE ROBE was born.
The newly created product stands out from the competition in terms of its ability to achieve thermal comfort faster. However, it should be noted that the effectiveness of warming up the body, and thus effective regeneration after leaving cold water, depends on many external factors, such as ambient temperature, air humidity or wind speed, as well as internal factors, such as the length of the bath, the degree of adaptation of the person taking the bath, their genetics, age and even their disposition on a given day. Therefore, depending on the situation, appropriate measures should be taken to prevent hypothermia. First, remove the factor lowering the body temperature (e.g. ensure quick transport to a warm room), and second, help to regain the proper body temperature (e.g. by using thermal clothing, a warm bath or entering a sauna). When the drop in core body temperature is small and the weather conditions are favorable, the temperature can also be raised through physical activity (low-intensity jogging or exercises, e.g. horse stance, suggested by Wim Hoff).
DESCRIPTION
The MEX ICE ROBE unisex bathrobe, made of quick-drying fabrics, is waterproof and windproof. It provides comfortable coverage at any time of year and in all weather conditions – rain, hail or snow. It consists of two parts that can be worn together or separately, i.e. a jacket with a lining and a detachable sweatshirt, which, when unzipped, acts as an additional insulator. This is our innovation.
MEX ICE ROBE was designed for those who enjoy exposure to cold, whether in the form of winter swimming or various forms of surfing. The special cut makes it easy to quickly take off a wet swimsuit, providing immediate thermal comfort. However, the use of the coat goes beyond the above-mentioned forms of physical activity and is limited only by your imagination.
When designing MEX ICE ROBE, we paid special attention to the cut of the hood, which provides full head coverage. There are two separate hoods – one on the detachable lining and one on the coat itself, which has a separate lining, which means that MEX ICE ROBE has two linings and two hoods. When the zipper is all the way up, the neck is fully covered, unlike in the case of other bathrobes and ponchos that have low necklines. This is very important, because thermal imaging studies show that heat escapes the fastest around the neck and head. There is no need to worry about this any longer.
Even at home, after a long cold bath, you can wrap yourself in the MEX ICE ROBE bathrobe, waiting for the right body temperature to return. On warmer days, you can detach the plush thermal lining. MEX ICE ROBE is also great for walks on cold days, whether along the beach or with a dog around the house. When unzipped, the lining can be used as a long fleece sweatshirt for a short trip to the garden or for a walk on warmer days. MEX ICE ROBE is simply indispensable on a weekend camping trip when the weather is uncertain. On the outside, the robe has two large pockets to put your hands in, and a zipped pocket on the chest that can be used to store documents, cash, credit cards, keys, smartphone or other small items. Additionally, the inner lining is equipped with a zipped pocket on the chest, which can be used for the same purpose. Specially selected Hydrodry™ fabric, made of 100% polyester, is an excellent thermal insulator and has thermoregulatory and absorbent properties, thus limiting the possibility of bacterial growth. The trade name, as well as the cut of the coat itself, are currently waiting for trademark registration.
BENEFITS
When looking for this type of garment at a price that reflects its quality, you should take into account a few details to understand the specifics of its use. That is why we emphasize that MEX ICE ROBE is primarily intended for people who take cold baths, which, of course, does not exclude other applications.
The oversize cut allows you to quickly put on the coat and promptly change clothes after a cold bath, but when it comes to walks, some may prefer more fitted clothing. MEX ICE ROBE works well with warm, slip-on shoes, which should be even two sizes larger. Putting on laced or tight shoes with frozen hands when your physical fitness is temporarily weakened, is almost impossible, and remember that a prolonged change of clothes in temperatures below zero can lead to hypothermia.
The MEX ICE ROBE bathrobe was deliberately designed to cover as much of the body surface as possible, reaching down to the knees or even below. Therefore, it should be remembered that zipping up a zipper after a cold bath in conditions of blood centralization, i.e. when blood is drained from the limbs, causing them to cool down, will inevitably be difficult, especially since you will have to bend down. If zipping up the robe is a problem, you can partially close the zipper at the bottom before you enter the water, and simply jump into the robe after bathing. All you need to do then is pull the zipper all the way up. Of course, the best solution will certainly be bathing under a roof or in a place where you can quickly go to a warm room.
Before putting on MEX ICE ROBE, you should dry your whole body well with a towel, because there is a common misconception that clothing such as a poncho or a bathing robe absorbs water perfectly, almost like a sponge, and dries up immediately, so you should put it on right after getting out of the water. Yes, on a sunny, warm day, it is enough to wrap yourself up in a towel, which will dry quickly in such conditions. However, in the case of a bathrobe, we are dealing with a garment that is insulated from the outside, which in a cold environment and in the absence of sun makes it difficult to dry the body and for water to evaporate. Therefore, if you want full thermal comfort, you must remember to thoroughly dry your body and take off the wet bathing suit.
SUMMARY
When choosing a bathrobe to protect yourself against exposure to cold, remember that it should be spacious and long, to help protect the largest possible surface area of your body and provide full thermal comfort. Above all, however, remember to put it on a dry body.
Anyone who has taken cold baths in unfavourable weather conditions or stayed in a climatic chamber at a very low temperature is aware that getting dressed after exposure to cold is often a greater challenge than entering cold water itself. An inherent element of gradual adaptation and training should therefore be not only the exposure to cold, but also efficient changing of clothes and restoring thermal comfort. For some, freezing hands or feet will always be associated with unbearable pain. In such a case, it may be necessary to use neoprene gloves and shoes during cold bathing, which does no one any harm. It is with such situations in mind that we designed MEX ICE ROBE.
MEX ICE ROBE has an excellent price-quality ratio. It's a real game changer when it comes to cold baths and thermal comfort.
The bathrobe is available in navy blue in three unisex sizes.
